'Hunger Games' to Pass Michael Moore's 'Fahrenheit 9/11' as Lionsgate's Top-Grossing Movie

The controversial filmmaker cedes the box office crown as the adaptation of Suzanne Collins' novel hits theaters.

"Fahrenheit 9/11" and "The Hunger Games"

Farenheit 911 Hunger Games - Split 2012For nearly eight years, Michael Moore’s documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 has held the record as Lionsgate’s top-grossing domestic movie, but its reign ends this weekend as The Hunger Games hits movie theaters.Gary Ross’ adaptation of the Suzanne Collins novel about teenage gladiators, starring Jennifer Lawrence, is on track to rack up a blockbuster weekend – the movie collected $19.7 million at its midnight bows – and as early as Saturday, it will become the top-grossing movie in Lionsgate’s history, topping the $119.2 million that Fahrenheit collected when it was released in 2004.
Moore himself acknowledged the passing of the box office crown in a tweet on Friday, writing, “A record will fall this weekend: Fahrenheit 9/11, the largest grossing movier ever released by Lionsgate, will be replaced by TheHungerGames."
Produced by Bob and Harvey Weinstein during their tenure at Miramax Films, the $6 million movie, which recounts the build up to the war in Iraq in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, became a political hot potato following its debut at the Cannes Film Festival. When Disney, which then owned Miramax, refused to allow Miramax to release the film, the Weinsteins bought it back  and then reached a deal to distribute it through Lionsgate and IFC Films.
Released on June 25, 2004, Fahrenheit went on to gross $119.2 million domestically and another $103.3 in foreign markets, where it was handled by various local distributors. Its worldwide total is $222.4 million. However, while Moore’s previous documentary 2002’s Bowling for Columbine won the Oscar for best documentary, Fahrenheit failed to earn an Academy Award nomination.
But Fahrenheit's status as Lionsgate’s top-grosser remained secure for eight years. Its closest challenger came in 2010, when Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables grossed $103.1 million. The studio’s other top-grosses, which will now all be overshadowed by Hunger Games are Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail, which grossed $90.5 million in 2009; Saw II, which brought in $87 million in 2005; and Saw III, which posted $80.2 million in 2006.

Bobbi Kristina's Boyfriend Whitney Houston's Drug Dealer?

Bobbi Kristina's boyfriend and "adopted brother" Nick Gordon was allegedly also Whitney Houston's drug dealer.
Whitney took Nick in as her own ten years ago when he was 12-years-old, but it recently came to light that he is involved in a romantic relationship with Bobbi Kristina in the aftermath of the singer's passing in January.
Now, sources claim that Nick also served as Whitney's drug dealer and would allow him to use her money to buy marijuana for herself and Bobbi.
"Whitney let Nick [Gordon] use her ATM card to withdraw money so he could buy marijuana for Krissi and her," a source told the National Enquirer.
"I also remember Nick finding a supplier who'd sell him the prescription drug Adderrall for $5 a pill. Krissy was taking lots of them every day. But Whitney had no idea that Nick was also using her money to supply Krissy with cocaine."
Do you believe these claims? Is Nick a bad influence on Bobbi

'American Idol' Burning Questions: Who's Funnier, Heejun Han or Will.I.Am? How Serious Was Phillip Phillips' Surgery?

heejun colton split POne thing we learned during Wednesday’s episode ofAmerican Idol? The early 1990s were not kind to pop singers. Most of the finalists readily admitted that they struggled with choosing a song for this week’s theme -- hits from the year of their birth -- which made for a few head-scratching performances. And, of course, there was plenty of drama playing out backstage, too. Jermaine Jones ouster aside, here are 12 more hot topics concerning the season 11 finalists.
Was Phillip Phillips’ kidney stone procedure serious? While the condition certainly is, Phillip says last week’s surgery was a quick, outpatient affair. “It didn't take too long, maybe 15 to 20 minutes at the most, but I do have to get another big one done.” For now, he says he’s “pushing the whole thing off for a little while” as he continues to compete on Idol. And he always has roommate and bestie Heejun Han to lean on. “We ended up sleeping in the same bed together I had to take care of him all night long,” Heejun cracked after Wednesday night’s show. “He was having a painful moment where I just had to be right next to him.”
Who’s funnier, Will.I.Am or Heejun Han? “Whatever, he had a really weird haircut,” says Heejun of the Black Eyed Peas singer. The two went toe-to-toe on the funny. “He spoke Korean to me. Like he was trying to teach Korean to a Korean person, which was ironic. I couldn't understand anything he was saying.”
What size are Colton’s Dixon’s pants? Shockingly, the chicken-legged singer is a size 30. “If you get into a skinny, skinny jean, it's a 32, believe it or not,” he said with a laugh. “Actually, I was born a chubby baby and I think I was just stretched out from there. I haven't grown a pound since.”
What other songs did DeAndre Brackensick consider singing?“Can You Feel the Love Tonight?,” “Can we Talk?,” “Water Runs Dry,” “I'll Make Love to You,” “I Swear” -- so many that were just horrible,” he says. “It was a horrible day.” In the end, he chose “Endless Love” because it was a song he was familiar with. “I was hoping that maybe it showed my vocal range.”
What trick was Shannon Magrane holding in her proverbial back pocket?“The judges weren't expecting me to do that high note,” she explained. “And I was kind of like, ‘OK, here, boom! I'm bringing this to the table!’”
Were Jessica Sanchez’z glitter-tastic pants her first find? “Soyon our stylist presented them to me,” the 16-year-old reveals, but they weren’t her first choice. “They're amazing. I went through a couple dresses and there was one I was going to wear but we had extra time so we just tried on some stuff. That’s how it became my outfit.”
Was Erika Van Pelt tempted to sing the 2002 DJ Sammy version of Bryan Adams’ “Heaven?” Of course, she says, “because it's a bit more current and more people of the younger generation have heard it. And obviously, it would have shown a totally different side of me, which may have shocked some people, but I wanted to stay true to the song and not take too many liberties. Plus, 1985 was the Bryan Adams version.” Added Skylar Laine: “And I made her listen to Jason Aldean's version of it, too.”
Was Skylar Laine feeling out of her element in the presence of Jimmy Iovine and Will.I.Am? “Will actually got me as soon as I sang the first time,” she says of the laborious song selection process (she ultimately went with Bonnie Raitt). “When Jimmy started playing all this stuff, Will looked at me kind of, like, ‘Nah, this is her.’ Jimmy was just trying to help me but I thought it was a great choice and I was really happy that I didn't do like, ‘I'm the Only One’ or ‘Piece of My Heart’ -- they've been done before.”
Was “When a Man Loves a Woman” a staple of Ledet’s pre-Idol repertoire? “I actually didn't know the song, I just knew of it,” says the Louisiana finalist who was gifted a giant tub of crawfish, which he says was “done exactly right -- the right spices, tomatoes, corn everything! … I learned the song that week and the amazing Michael Orland and Peisha McPhee helped me with the arrangement, the key, the modulation and falsetto. At the end of the day, it worked out and the judges really liked it.” No kidding.
Is Elise Testone wearing her heart on her face? It seems the main criticism of the raspy-voiced singer is that her facial expressions tell too much of a story -- and it's not a happy ending. What does the 28-year-old have to say about it? "I was upset and frustrated because when I watched the Whitney Houston week performance back I thought I did a really good job. So I was confused: like, are they messing with me?" Still, she learned a key lesson from the experience. "The biggest thing for me is to remember that people are watching and when I'm upset, it can be mistaken for angry. That's something I need to learn my whole life."
What’s up with Hollie Cavanagh’s brothers? No on-air love or a show of support for the little sister with the big voice? “My brothers are crazy we just joke around all the time,” Hollie laughed after the show of their camera shot, which showed the guys assessing her rousing performance as so-so. Asked whether a playful slap was due, she said, “I'm not gonna playfully slap them, I'm gonna hit them!”

'American Idol': Jermaine Jones Disqualified, Leaving The Show

American Idol Jermaine Jones

'

By DERRIK J. LANG
Jermaine Jones is apparently out on "American Idol."
The 25-year-old vocal instructor from Pine Hill, N.J., tweeted Tuesday night that he no longer would be on the Fox singing contest.
The Hollywood Reporter said Jones tweeted, "Awww I will no longer b on the show." His Twitter account has since been deleted.
A Fox spokeswoman declined to comment on the matter or confirm his tweet.
TMZ reports Jones will be kicked off during the Wed., March 14 broadcast. He allegedly hid a criminal record -- an incident involved violence -- from producers who then confronted Jones on camera. In addition to hiding his criminal past, TMZ said Jones lied to cops by giving them fake names after arrests.
Jones reportedly has outstanding warrants.
Following the selection of the Top 24, the so-called "gentle giant," as he was dubbed by "Idol" host Ryan Seacrest, was among the show's viewer-selected top 13 finalists after the judges gave him a last-minute spot among the 11th season's top 13 male semifinalists.
He was among the bottom three vote-getters last week after performing Stevie Wonder's "Knocks Me Off My Feet" but advanced to the group of top 12 singers.
"Idol" contestants in the past have been disqualified when the show deems that their work or personal history is an issue.
Corey Clark was disqualified for concealing his arrest record during the second season in 2003. Frenchie Davis was also dropped from "Idol" that year because of her previous appearance on an adult website.
During the eighth season in 2009, Joanna Pacitti was shown advancing to the top 36 semifinalists after "Hollywood Week" but was later replaced. Pacitti released an album in 2006 and had ties to 19 Entertainment, which produces "Idol" with FremantleMedia North America.
Chris Golightly was dropped from the top 24 semifinalists in the ninth season in 2010 because he didn't disclose that he had a previous record contract.
In contrast, the singing competition allowed past finalists like the sixth season's Antonella Barba and the seventh season's David Hernandez to stay on after racy photos that appeared to be Barba leaked online. Hernandez was revealed as having once worked as a nightclub stripper

'American Idol': 20 Things You Didn't See on Wednesday's Top 13 Show

Skylar Laine Whitney performance PAmerican Idol’s Top 13 certainly had their work cut out for them with this week’sWhitney Houston-Stevie Wonder theme. Millions saw them sweat on TV -- and heard judge Steven Tyler say “Beautiful” no less than 10 times -- but what didn’t you catch on the broadcast? Read on...
1) It’s a twist! Ryan Seacrestpreps the audience in advance, not just for the show, but for a surprise game-change that will prompt some to gasp -- or at least the producers would like to encourage such a reaction, he conveys in so many words
2) With the opening theme comes a new method for getting the judges to their seats, a quick hop down the stairs as the music plays. Only problem is Jennifer Lopez requires assistance, which means a (lucky) stagehand gets to lead her down the wobbly stairs very carefully.
3) While Seacrest is explaining the X Factor-like decision to have the judges choose which of the bottom two (a guy or a girl) will be sent home, several sax guys wait in the wings of Stage 36 for what’s sure to be a brassy affair, Joshua Ledet’s version of “I Wish.”
4) Sure enough, even J. Lo is air drumming to Joshua’s Stevie Wonder-inspired runs.
5) First break time and 12 people have gathered on the judges' riser including executive producer Nigel LythgoeRandy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler take a moment to properly acknowledge the crowd while over stage left, Ryan is rehearsing his next few lines.
6) Elise Testone looks stressed as her video clip plays and the stage backdrop opens wide. Perhaps in an effort to calm the contestants’ nerves, J. lo claps along to Elise’s version of “I’m Your Baby Tonight.”
7) We may soon be calling him the Jolly Gentle Giant as Jermaine Jones is the picture ofIdol giddiness, laughing, waving, smiling and otherwise greeting everyone within stones’ throw of the stage.
8) Erika Van Pelt makes a feverish last-minute hair fix before launching into “I Believe in You and Me” and turns the audience from skeptical to on-their-feet supportive.
9) After Colton Dixon’s rocking version of “Lately,” the Murfreesboro, Tennessee native pulls his in-ear monitor out so he can hear the judges critique better.
10) Poor Shannon Magrane – her one minute and forty seconds of “I Have Nothing” felt like one big collective teeth clench. Now it seems only a matter of time before Vote for the Worst dubs her brand of song Shannon Migraine.
11) DeAndre Brackensick is known for his hair, but I found myself more impressed with his bow at the end of a performance. Classy move, especially for a 17-year-old.
12) Commercial breaks allow for quick conferences with executives such as Fox Alternative Programming chief Mike Darnell and the occasional group photo. Wednesday’s portrait was a feisty shot of the three judges that found J. Lo playfully teasing Randy Jackson’s sparkling, er, broche.
13) Ever the charmer, Skylair Laine finishes her rendition of “Where Do Broken Heart Go” and proceeds to hug everyone in sight, from the guy who grabs the microphone to the stagehand there to lead her to the exit where another camera awaits.
14) More in-ear issues, this time for Heejun Han, who struggles with an unruly cord. Good thing he gets it worked out by the time Seacrest starts cracking. It turned out to be one of the most entertaining moments of the night.
15) We have another hugger in the group -- Jeremy Rosado, who is practically yanked from the mosh pit area so that he can make his cue onstage.
16) Jessica Sanchez has the audience eating out of her hands by the time she reaches her third note of the iconic "I Will Always Love You." Credit J. Lo in part for egging on the crowd and getting them on their feet, though no one needed all that much persuasion.
17) Speaking of deafening cheers, Phillip Phillips gets more than his share even before strumming his first chord. And not just from the female audience members either, Phillip bros down with the guitarist and bassist accompanying him.
18) With the replay screening behind them, contestants turn around and cheer each other on -- Skylar Laine fist-bumps Heejun Han, Phillip Phillips bows down to Jessica Sanchez and Hollie Cavanagh simply shakes her head in disbelief.
19) After the credits roll, the audience is asked to stay in their seats for a few more minutes so that Ryan Seacrest can pre-tape a Bat Mitzvah message for the 13-year-old daughter of Fox Alternative Programming chief Mike Darnell. More on that here, but think of the episode of Entourage when Vincent Chase shows up to the Beverly Hilton (creepily, where Whitney Houston died) for Ari Gold’s daughter’s Bat Mitzvah.
20) And finally, out in the parking lot, season 9’s Katie Stevens and last year’s runner-upLauren Alaina (performing on the show Thursday night) are getting their reunion on, chit-chatting with crew from the show then embarking on their own joy-ride around L.A.Ah, the life of an Idol…

Michael Jackson may have passed away, but that doesn't mean his name -- and music -- aren't bringing in millions at the box office
"Michael Jackson: The Immortal," Cirque du Soleil's tribute to the late singer brought in an astounding $2,362,502 over the past three months -- more than any other touring concert act.
This comes as good news for Michael Jackson's estate, after hackers stole the entirety of his musical catalog from Sony's computer systems earlier this week.
Kanye West and Jay-Z's "Watch The Throne" tour came in second, earning $1,902,032 at an average ticket price of $112.94 per ticket.
Pollstar, an online trade publication that monitors concert sales and reported the numbers, told The Huffington Post that the figures are updated weekly and are based on approximately three months worth of data, meaning that the data released this week covers sales from late November to today.
"Michael Jackson: The Immortal" wasn't the only Cirque du Soleil show to make it on the chart. Cirque's productions "Dralion" and "Quidam" came in third and fourth on the chart, respectively. Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band rounded out the top five with $753,644 in sales.
All told, the three Cirque shows netted an impressive $4.4 million dollars
Other notable acts in Pollstar's Top 20 include Blake Shelton who debuted on the list at the ninth spot with $367,522 in box office earnings. Miranda Lambert's tour earned $314,295, Lady Antebellum brought in $294,995 and punk band Rise Against rounded out the top fifteen with $148,490.
